Highlights Of Vietnam 10 DaysDay 2: Ho Chi Minh City – Cu Chi Tunnels (B/L)

This morning you will be met at your hotel at 8.00am for a morning walking tour through the heart of Saigon’s famous and historic city landmarks including Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), the Rex Hotel, Municipal Theatre, Hotel de Ville and Notre Dame Cathedral. You will then join your vehicle and drive to the site of the former US Embassy (now the US consulate) before visiting the impressive Re-Unification Palace and War Remnants Museum. Also travel to Cholon, Saigon’s Chinese district and visit the huge Binh Tay wholesale market and the temple dedicated to the Sea Goddess, Thien Hau.
For lunch you might want to try “Pho” (pronounced “fur”) the delicious Vietnamese noodle soup, before traveling to the Cu Chi Tunnels. The tunnels are located in an area known during the Vietnam War as the “Iron Triangle” on account of the strength of its communist insurgency. Established as a means of waging guerrilla war against superior French and later American fire power; the tunnel network stretches over 250kms and extends to three levels underground, providing a remarkable insight into the method and determination of Communist forces during the Vietnam War. Return to Saigon by late afternoon.

Highlights Of Vietnam 10 DaysDay 3: My Tho – Ben Tre 1 Day (B/L)

This morning you will be met at your hotel at 8.00am by your guide for a full day tour traveling south from Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho, the gateway to the Mekong Delta. Known as the “rice bowl” of Vietnam, the Delta is the most fertile region in the country, and the main producer of rice and tropical fruits. From My Tho, you board your boat and travel to one of the islands located in the middle of the Mekong River. On the island visit a fruit orchard and sample some of the local produce, before boarding a smaller sampan that winds along narrow canals. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit a local family’s house and enjoy their hospitality and share with them some tea or rice wine. After lunch in My Tho return to Ho Chi Minh City by late afternoon.

Highlights Of Vietnam 10 DaysDay 4: Ho Chi Minh – Hoian City Tour (B/L)

This morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Danang Airport and then drive south to Hoi An. Your first stop will be Marble Mountains, a series of large marble outcrops that have acquired mythical significance over the centuries. The caves of the Marble Mountains have a number of sacred Buddhist shrines and served as a communist guerrilla hospital during the Vietnam War. From the Marble Mountains there are great views across China Beach and the surrounding countryside. Continue with a visit to China Beach, site of the former US ‘R and R’ beach escape spot, before heading to Hoi An. The World Heritage Listed old town of Hoi An was Vietnam’s most active trading centre over many centuries and has been largely preserved. The architecture of the city reflects the influence of Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, French and British traders. Hoi An is also the town where French Missionary Alexandre De Rhodes introduced Catholicism to Vietnam as well as the Romanized script that has become the standard Vietnamese script. This afternoon, take a walking tour of enchanting Hoi An visiting an old merchant house, a Chinese assembly hall and the Japanese Covered Bridge.

Today is free for you to explore this beautiful town with its many clothing shops, colorful fish market and river life. This evening dine at one of Hoi An’s appealing restaurants or take part in an optional fun, hands-on cooking class and learn how to prepare some of the local delicacies.

Highlights Of Vietnam 10 DaysDay 6: Hoian – Hue City (B/L)

After checking out this morning, travel north to the old imperial capital of Hue, via the spectacular Hai Van Pass. This drive is considered one of the most beautiful in Vietnam and takes you through a combination of both rural and coastal settings. Hue itself has a lovely location on the banks of the Perfume River. As Vietnam’s capital throughout the Nguyen Dynasty, as a centre of Vietnamese Buddhism and scholarship and finally as the setting for some of the Vietnam War’s most bloody fighting, Hue provides a unique window into Vietnam and its complex past. Begin your exploration of this city visit the impressive home of the Nguyen Dynasty emperors (1802-1945), the Citadel. Much of the Citadel was destroyed during the Tet Offensive in 1968 but is gradually being restored. Continue on to the much revered Thien Mu Pagoda, Hue’s oldest and most beautiful religious monument and then finish the day with a visit to the tomb of the fourth emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, Tu Duc.

This morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Hanoi. Hanoi has been the political and historical centre of Vietnam for almost 1000 years and has a wealth of sights to explore. Heavily influenced by French colonial architecture, Hanoi is both historically beautiful and a vibrant capital city sure to entice you.

This morning you will be met at your hotel by our guide at 8.00am to begin your city tour with a cyclo ride through the fascinating Old Quarter – 36 ancient streets where you can observe the daily bustle of life around the markets where peddlers continue to trade as they have done for centuries. We then visit the Ho Chi Minh Quarter, dedicated to the father of modern Vietnam – Uncle Ho, to see his mausoleum, the Presidential Palace, his ‘house on stilts’, the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the One Pillar Pagoda. After stopping for lunch continue your tour with a visit to the Temple of Literature – Vietnam’s first university now dedicated to Confucian worship. Also visit Tran Quoc and Ngoc Son Temples and then the “Hanoi Hilton” – the nickname given to the place where U.S pilots shot down over North Vietnamese airspace were imprisoned during the Vietnam War – now converted into a museum. Finish your day with a relaxing walk around Hanoi’s famous Hoan Kiem Lake, then return to your hotel or continue with your own exploration of this beautiful city.

This morning you will be met at your hotel at 8.00am for the journey east (approximately 170km or 4-hours) to Hon Gai, the gateway to Halong Bay. En route you will pass fields of busy workers farming their rice fields using traditional methods of cultivation. You will have 4 hours aboard your boat cruising around this magnificent bay. Considered Vietnam’s greatest natural wonder, Halong Bay boasts over 3,000 islands that rise out of the sea to provide a spectacular natural environment – you will also have the opportunity to stop at one of the many grottoes. During the summer months you may wish to have a swim in the clean, warm waters of the bay. Returning to Hanoi you will stop at a ceramics village where you can see artisans create superb ceramic vases and other masterpieces in their kilns and have the opportunity to purchase many of their products at a fraction of the price that you could expect to pay outside of Vietnam. On arrival in Hanoi you will be dropped at your hotel.
